Máximo Antonio Gedda Ortiz nació el 19 de diciembre de 1947 en Temuco. Estudió en el Colegio La Salle de la misma ciudad y, posteriormente, ingresó a la Universidad de La Frontera. Trabajaba como periodista en Televisión Nacional de Chile. Militante del MIR, sucedió a José Humberto Carrasco Tapia (Pepone) como jefe del Grupo Político Militar 7, estructura territorial que abarcaba las comunas de Santiago y Providencia.
Su detención ocurrió el 16 de julio de 1974 en un bus de la locomoción colectiva por agentes de la DINA.
En febrero de 1975, su nombre fue incluido en un listado presentado en una "conferencia de prensa" montada por la DINA y protagonizada por cuatro dirigentes del MIR. En aquella lista Gedda aparecía como "exiliado".
